Inspired to Make Love Last
Are You Falling Out Of Love?
Ever catch yourself looking over at your partner and asking, “Who is this person? What am I doing in this relationship?”
And then you remember all the good times, the spark, the love and connection that brought you together so many years ago.
But the minutes and the hours and the days since then seem so far away. He doesn’t touch you the way he used to. You aren’t as excited to see him after a day at work. You fight more. You make love less.
And you wonder if this is just a slow descent into how things will always be.
Warning: You are Exhibiting Signs of Being Human
Relationships are hard. They take work.
They are even harder if you don’t give them the time, attention, and care they need to grow and develop. Every great couple has to work on their relationship at times. So you are not alone.
The beginnings of love are easy. We get lost in emotions, starry-eyed, and carried away by fantasies of who our partner is. Or perhaps, who you dream they will be.
And then you wake up. You find out they are, just like you, a human being too. They have their own wounding and pain that travels along with them in your relationship. Sometimes it can feel like a very crowded room where your delicate heart has no room to breathe.
On the other side of your disappointment, turmoil, and conflict you can reclaim your right to a loving relationship. Conflicts can be resolved — peacefully and with genuine concern for the deep needs and wounds of each other. Distance can be replaced by closeness. Love can feel wonderful again.
Creating a Loving, Lasting We
It’s also an opportunity to create a genuine We — a space for love to grow and expand between you. It is the space where with a little bravery and compassion you can enter into the love that rarely gets written about in romance novels but is so clearly reflected in those couples who hold hands when they are in their nineties, support each other in living their dreams and are often seen snuggling by the fire long after anyone thinks that kind of love should still be around.
When You Are Ready…
It requires that, for a little while, we put down our blame and our shame and our guilt, even when it feels scary and vulnerable. Because the truth is, you are two beautiful human beings that deserve to have a great love for each other. Deep down, you are so worthy of a genuine love that lasts.
This is the work I do with couples. It’s not about creating overnight miracles or making him or her totally different. It’s about releasing the pain that is getting in the way of you remembering your deep love for each other. From that place of learning new ways to create a loving relationship, love flourishes.
This doesn’t mean that your relationship will be perfect. Perfection doesn’t really exist. But what it does mean is that you may rekindle the spark that you felt so long ago, find yourself more trusting and loving of each other, enjoy being together and create new ways to have the life that you want together.
